The Internet
Jr. Diaz
Invented by Tim Berners-Lee, the internet can be considered one of the greatest accomplishments in history. The internet is responsible for making lives easier with instant communication, easier research, and entertainment.
First, the internet provides much faster and reliable ways of communicating. Before the internet people had to spend their time writing letters to their friends and family; they to wait days to see their response. One the other hand, with the internet it’s much simpler to write emails and have it sent instantly. Plus, you can actually sent it to multiple people at once so there is no need to drive all the way to the post office and send dozens of personal letters or invites to your friends. As an email user myself I must say that it is much easier and it saves time not having to waste my time with buying envelopes, paper etcetera.
Second, finding information is much easier. There is no need to drive all the way down to the library and rent books or have to deal with late fees. With the internet people can use search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing to make research easier. The internet gives you numerous sites to choose from and is filled with information that might not be found in old encyclopedias. So with the World Wide Web research papers are easier to finish, and have new and accurate information.
Third, in the modern world the internet is also used for entertainment. Some of these ways is by reading the news. There are many websites that are devoted to giving you the latest in local and worldwide news. Other websites offer ways of watching your favorite shows on the internet; this means you no longer have to miss your favorite TV show. Similar websites allow you to share videos with your friends. Another source of entertainment would be music sites where you are allowed to find your favorite songs and artist and discover new ones too.
Even though the internet can be used for fun and entertaining purposes it can also be very harmful when not used carefully. Many of the social networks can cause damage to a person’s life; not everything that is posted onto the internet is private. in addition, the internet is also one of the biggest threats to identity theft so watch what you post because it’s not entirely safe.
In conclusion, the internet is very useful in many ways and can improve your everyday life. I think the internet is the greatest accomplishment ever for making my life easier and helping me spend less time on work. Faster communication, quicker research, and entertainment are a few of many ways to use the internet.
